What is the CPC and do I need it?
The Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is an initial qualification for fairly new drivers who want to drive lorries, buses, coaches or other LGVs. Introduced in 2009, you must have a CPC to drive these vehicles professionally UNLESS you passed your test before the 1st of January 1997.
The CPC can be acquired either before or after passing your LGV driving test, but apart from in exceptional circumstances, you need a CPC to drive an LGV.
How do I get a CPC?
You need 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to receive and keep your CPC. St Christopher’s Training can provide the initial CPC approved course to acquire your CPC, and then provide the periodic training to help you meet your CPC training requirements every 5 years.
